FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE Launches Today

Article

A brand-new Final Fantasy RPG is here, and it looks unlike anything the series has released before.

Out Today, Steam Tomorrow

FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE releases in Japan today, October 22, 2026, on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows. The Steam version follows one day later, October 23 — so Steam players will need to wait just a little longer.

What If FF Had Kept Evolving in Pixel Form?

Resonance is built around a single creative question: what if FINAL FANTASY had continued evolving in pixel form? The answer is a completely new RPG that blends pixel-art characters and world design with HD-2D and "Cinematic Pixel" — Square Enix's own term for the modern visual techniques layered on top of that classic pixel presentation.

Trailer and Image Song Already Out

Square Enix has already released the game's final trailer ahead of launch, and the image song, "INSIDE" by WurtS, is confirmed.

Editions and Pricing

Three editions are available: the Standard Edition at JPY 7,678 (tax included), the Digital Deluxe Edition at JPY 9,878, and the Collector's Edition at JPY 25,500.

What To Know

For fans who grew up on Final Fantasy's pixel-era entries, Resonance offers something genuinely new: not a remake or remaster, but a brand-new story told through a visual language that imagines how that pixel aesthetic might have kept evolving on its own, now paired with modern "Cinematic Pixel" presentation.

Square Enix's HD-2D style — first popularized by titles like Octopath Traveler — has become one of the studio's signature modern visual approaches, and Resonance's "Cinematic Pixel" framing positions it as the next step in that same visual lineage specifically for the Final Fantasy brand.
