Sixty Years of Lucca

Lucca Comics & Games, held annually in the walled Tuscan city of Lucca, celebrates its 60th edition in 2026. The festival's own announcement frames this milestone under the theme "LEGACY," reflecting on six decades of comics, games, and fan culture passing through the city.

Dates and Format

The 2026 edition runs October 28 (Wednesday) through November 1 (Sunday), spanning the historic center of Lucca. As in past editions, the festival uses venues and public spaces across the city rather than a single convention hall.

More Than Comics

Lucca Comics & Games is not a purely Japanese or anime-focused event — its name reflects its scope, covering comics, tabletop and video games, fantasy, and pop culture broadly. Japanese publishers, manga, and anime exhibitors are part of that wider mix rather than the whole of it, which is part of what makes Lucca a useful crossover point for TBM readers who follow Japanese pop culture's place in a larger global fandom landscape.

What to Watch For

As of this writing, the festival's detailed 2026 program of guests, exhibitors, and specific LEGACY-themed activities has not been separately itemized in the material used for this article. Readers planning to attend should check the official site for the full program as it is released.

What To Know

Lucca is one of the longest-running, largest fan gatherings in Europe, and a 60th-anniversary edition is a natural moment for international comics, games, and fandom communities — including Japanese manga and anime fans who attend alongside European comics readers — to pay attention to how a six-decade-old festival chooses to mark its own history.

Lucca, Tuscany, Italy — Lucca Comics & Games is not a Japan-specific event, but it is one of Europe's major venues where manga, anime, and Japanese game publishers exhibit alongside European and American comics and game creators, making it a key point of cultural crossover for TBM's international fandom coverage.
