An Opening Chapter for a New Anime Event
Tokyo Anime Next is a launch initiative ahead of a fuller event planned for 2027. Organized by the Association of Japanese Animations and co-organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, its four-day program connects watching animation with learning how it is made. For visitors, the useful distinction is between the public activities in Ikebukuro and the opening industry symposium at TIFFCOM in Hamamatsucho.
From Cinema Seats to Animation Workshops
October 31 and November 1 bring screenings and talks at Ikebukuro HUMAX Cinemas and TOHO Cinemas Ikebukuro, alongside children’s animation workshops at WACCA Ikebukuro. Staff talks and creator sessions follow on November 2 at Toshima Civic Center. These formats offer different ways into the medium, whether a visitor wants to watch a finished work or understand the work behind it.
Anime Music Takes the Main Stage
The November 2 finale at Tokyo Tatemono Brillia HALL combines screen imagery with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and live vocal performances. Demon Slayer, Attack on Titan and Detective Conan are the three featured anime properties. This is an orchestral presentation, rather than a promise of full screenings of those series.
Planning Your Visit
The main concert is free but requires an admission ticket; reserved seating and the official application process apply. Some other programs, including screenings, are paid. Check each activity separately rather than assuming that a four-day event means unrestricted entry. October 30’s TIFFCOM symposium is for industry participants.
Why Ikebukuro Fits
Ikebukuro already has an established manga and anime shopping identity. Bringing cinemas, workshops and a concert hall into one event lets international visitors experience fan culture as part of a Tokyo neighborhood. TBM’s comparison of Ikebukuro, Akihabara and Nakano provides a useful companion for planning time outside the scheduled programs.
