Global Festa JAPAN 2026 Fills Shinjuku With International Cooperation and Culture

Article

One of Japan's biggest free events on international cooperation returns to Shinjuku this October.

Two Venues, One Weekend

Global Festa JAPAN 2026 runs October 17-18, tentatively 10am-5pm both days, free of charge. The indoor Sankaku Hiroba venue, inside the Shinjuku Sumitomo Building, hosts talks and reflection programming, while the outdoor Fun More Time Plaza in Shinjuku Central Park hosts music, dance, and food from around the world.

What's on the Program

October 17 includes an opening ceremony, a JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteers talk stage, and a discussion between Agnes Chan and FROGMAN. October 18 brings the TOKYO JICA COLLECTION, a quiz show hosted by comedian Naoki Tanaka, and a Youth Award ceremony recognizing young people's work on global challenges.

What To Know

For anyone curious about how Japan engages with the wider world beyond pop culture exports, Global Festa JAPAN is a rare, free, public-facing window into the country's actual international cooperation and development work - NGOs, NPOs, embassies, and JICA all present side by side.

Splitting the event between an indoor "talk and reflection" venue and an outdoor "music, food, and booths" venue is a deliberate structure - it lets visitors move between serious discussion of international cooperation and a more festival-like public space within the same two days.

What Fans Are Saying

• "Didn't realize an event this big on international cooperation was free."
• "Splitting it into an indoor talk venue and outdoor festival venue is smart."
• "The Youth Award part sounds genuinely worth checking out."

Original Japanese
