Setouchi Art & Industry 2026 holds its first full edition October 3-31, 2026, at working factories and industrial sites across Okayama and Ehime — not former or repurposed buildings, but active industrial sites still in operation.

Who’s Participating

Seven companies and organizations take part: NAIKAI Salt Industries, MIKUNI INDUSTRY, TOMBOW, Kojima Jeans Street, Oono Development, Fuji Clean, and PowerX. Between them, they represent salt production, textiles (including school uniforms), jeans, marine-engine and industrial manufacturing, battery storage, and recycling/environmental industry.

What Visitors Experience

Visitors encounter site-specific art installed inside these active industrial environments — seeing contemporary art staged around real, still-operating machinery and processes rather than in a neutral gallery space. Reservations are required for some participating experiences, according to official tourism guidance.

Not the Setouchi Triennale

This is a distinct, separate festival from the well-known Setouchi Triennale — same region, but a first-time event built specifically around industrial sites rather than the Triennale's island-based art format.

For travelers who've done the island-art route already, this offers a genuinely different reason to return to the Setouchi region — access to working sites that are normally closed to visitors entirely.
