A festival with a diplomatic milestone
The Sydney Sake Festival 2026 is running September 11-13 at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, 130 Argyle St, The Rocks. Organizers state the event has been officially recognised as a related event commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Japan and Australia, signed in 1976.
What's on offer
The festival features more than 80 stalls from Australian distributors and Japanese sake breweries travelling directly from Japan, offering more than 400 varieties of sake for tasting and purchase, alongside Japanese street food, ceramics, and Sake 101 seminars and food-pairing sessions.
What To Know
A large-scale showcase of 80+ stalls and 400+ sake varieties from Japanese breweries, tied to a genuine diplomatic milestone, gives this year's festival real significance beyond a routine annual tasting event.
The Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Japan and Australia was signed in 1976, making 2026 its 50th anniversary — a real bilateral milestone that several cultural events across Australia are marking this year.
