This Weekend's Free Live-Performance Showcase Lands Right at Takanawa Gateway Station

"Performing Arts Base 2026" — the free, walk-up showcase component of the wider Tokyo Performing Arts Festival 2026 — runs September 5-6, 2026 at MoN Takanawa: The Museum of Narratives, specifically at Box300, directly connected to Takanawa Gateway Station.

Unlike this year's broader festival, which spans two months and multiple venues, this is a concentrated, two-day, single-location entry point: no ticket required, and no need to commit to one specific show months in advance.

Who's Performing

Seven groups present 13 performances at the Takanawa venue, spanning theater, dance, physical comedy, street performance, and contemporary circus: ON, Shinonome Gold, Zeroko, Tokumei Gekidan, Hatada, Meguro Yousuke × kacouslimba, and LAND FES.

Programming runs from 12:00 noon onward both days. A separate opening event on September 4 at the same venue featured Zeroco and LAND FES.

Why Takanawa Specifically

This is a new venue for the festival this year — the Takanawa leg didn't exist in prior editions. Its direct connection to Takanawa Gateway Station makes it one of the most transit-accessible entries in the entire festival, and it sits in an area TBM has separately covered as an emerging culture-scene corridor alongside neighboring Toranomon.

Free, walk-up access to contemporary circus and physical performance directly at a train station is a genuinely rare entry point into a scene most visitors never encounter — no ticket, no advance planning, just showing up.
