My Hero Academia's Kohei Horikoshi Returns With a Horror One-Shot, His First New Work Since MHA Ended

『僕のヒーローアカデミア』堀越耕平氏、新読み切り「笑わないでよ、しじまさん」を発表

Article

Two years after My Hero Academia ended, Kohei Horikoshi is back in Weekly Shonen Jump — and he's swapped superheroes for horror.

A Horror One-Shot, Not Another Hero Story

"Quit Laughing, Shijima-san" ran in Weekly Shonen Jump's combined Issue #37/38, on sale August 10, as a 61-page one-shot with a center color page. It's described as "boy-meets-girl horror," following a strange town where everyone admires a girl named Shijima — while a sinister secret hides beneath the surface.

Horikoshi's First New Work Since MHA

This marks Horikoshi's first manga published in Weekly Shonen Jump since My Hero Academia concluded in August 2024. Whether it becomes a full series or stays a standalone one-shot hasn't been announced. It's readable now on MANGA Plus by Shueisha for international fans.

What To Know

My Hero Academia built one of the largest global manga fanbases of the last decade, and fans have waited two years since it ended to see what Horikoshi would do next — a genre swerve into horror, rather than another hero story, makes this a genuinely surprising first move.

A one-shot in Weekly Shonen Jump is the standard way a major creator tests a new concept between long-running series — it's a real, visible signal of what a superstar mangaka might build into a full series next, not just a stopgap.

What Fans Are Saying

  • "Did not expect Horikoshi's first thing post-MHA to be horror, but I'm immediately in."
  • "Two years of waiting and he comes back swinging in a completely different genre — respect."

Original Japanese
