Summer Sonic 2026 Tokyo: What Fans Need to Know
「サマーソニック2026」東京会場ガイド:25周年・初の3日間開催で何が変わる?
Article
Summer Sonic turns 25 this year, and it's marking the occasion the way it has only twice before in its history: by running a full three days instead of its usual two.
Dates and Venues
Summer Sonic 2026 takes place Friday, August 14 through Sunday, August 16, 2026. The Tokyo venue is ZOZO Marine Stadium & Makuhari Messe in Chiba; a parallel Osaka edition runs the same weekend at Expo '70 Commemorative Park. Both cities run their own day-by-day lineups rather than a single shared bill.
Why Three Days This Time
Summer Sonic has run as a two-day festival for most of its history since starting in 2000. It expanded to three days for its 10th anniversary in 2009 and again for its 20th anniversary in 2019 — this 25th-anniversary edition is only the third three-day Summer Sonic ever, and organizers have described it as being produced "on an unprecedented scale."
Headliners and Lineup
Confirmed headliners include The Strokes, L'Arc-en-Ciel, and Ado, with a broader lineup spanning rock and pop — BUMP OF CHICKEN, FKA twigs, Kasabian, keshi, JENNIE, LE SSERAFIM, Pentatonix, Sakanaction, Steve Lacy, Suchmos, Suede, and Jamiroquai among the acts confirmed as of this guide. BABYMETAL is also on the bill, curating their own dedicated stage — see TBM's separate BABYMETAL at Summer Sonic 2026 guide for details.
What To Know
Summer Sonic is one of Japan's biggest festivals, and this year is a landmark: 25 years, only the third time ever it's run three full days. That extra day changes trip planning and how much of the lineup you can catch.
Summer Sonic mixes Western headliners with major Japanese rock and pop acts on the same main stages, not a separate 'domestic' stage — why a lineup with both The Strokes and L'Arc-en-Ciel headlining feels normal here, unlike most Western festivals.
