JFA Launches BLUE LOCK-Inspired Future Camp to Scout Japanese Talent Overseas

The Japan Football Association has turned a manga's premise into an actual scouting program — and its first camp has already happened.

What FUTURE CAMP Is

FUTURE CAMP inspired by BLUE LOCK is a new JFA initiative, run with Gold Partner SCO Group Co., Ltd., designed to identify football talent of Japanese heritage growing up outside Japan. Eligible players were born between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2011, live outside Japan, and hold Japanese citizenship, have at least one Japanese parent, or may be eligible for Japanese citizenship in the future.

Why BLUE LOCK

BLUE LOCK, the manga and anime by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura, centers on a brutal, high-stakes competition among young players to become Japan's most dangerous striker — a story built entirely around identifying and forging elite talent. The JFA describes the series' message of ambition and self-discovery as symbolic inspiration for FUTURE CAMP's own talent-identification mission, rather than a simple sponsorship tie-in.

The First Camp

Applications were accepted from May 11 to June 12, 2026, through document review and video evaluation of technical ability and decision-making, with results announced in late June. The inaugural camp ran August 3–6, 2026, at Great Park in Irvine, California, with roughly 25 players — 22 field players and 2–4 goalkeepers — taking part in training, matches, and physical and technical assessments run by JFA coaches.

JFA President Tsuneyasu Miyamoto framed the project as a response to football becoming borderless, stating that Japan can no longer rely solely on players developed inside the country. The JFA has confirmed plans to expand FUTURE CAMP to Europe, Asia, and additional regions following this first U.S. edition.
